As you can see fro the above picture, don't you think that Kuda Rah is more Mediterranean in appearance; indeed, it's expensive and a little more formal. If you didn't look at the palm trees or turquoise water you might well imagine yourself in some European destination, a real home far from home for sun seekers. The buildings have balustrades, arches, terracotta tiles over verandas, and flat roofs. Inside, all is white and spacious, with antiques.

This elegance is echoed in the landscape. Fortunate to have a mature island with tall palms and a full canopy, it has been enhanced with bowers of bougainvilla, frangipani trees and flowers.

Maldives Islands Resorts

maldives_islands_resorts_kuda_rah_beach.jpg (11045 bytes)Unfortunately the island has not been well endowed with beaches. During the high season there is really only one beach, near the jetty, and that looks out to a prominent lagoon wall not far away. Still, this doesn't seem to disturb people here, as the guests enjoy coming together in one place, and the walls create the effect of a large swimming pool, ideal for communing. In the later afternoon when shadows fall across this spot everyone, it seems, takes the short Dhoani ride over to a glorious, pure sandbank to continue the tanning and playing. At other times of the year the beach is well spread around the island.

Outside the walls the reef edge is excellent for snorkeling and this is indeed popular, but diving is not taken up by many here despite some fine dive sites close-by. There are a few canoes for general use but no actual water sports center. The activities are more land based. In the middle of the island is one of the few really good tennis courts. Volleyball is also available. So too is pool, table tennis and darts.

Entertainment is similar to that found on other Italian resorts, though perhaps less participatory here. Every evening there is a small cabaret, and after lunch with coffee and before dinner with aperitifs members of staff put on a performance of familiar songs.

One of the highlights of the resort is the food. Lunch is a large and varied buffet washed down with the carafes of ice tea and white wine provided, and rounded off with home-made ice cream. Guests dress up for dinner as it were to do justice to the five excellent courses served at the table. The enjoyment is audible in the chatter and laughter around the dinning room.
