Nearly everybody on Moofushi is Italian, and compared to other Italian resorts it is probably more easy-going and less expensive. Sadly, it doesn't have much else going for it.

The main problem here is erosion. In attempts to control it, walls have been built up against the rooms and inside the lagoon. But matters have only got worse and more of the remaining beach has been eroded. Some rooms have hindered access to the water. and where there is beach outside the rooms, there is a wall a meter or two into the water.

The rooms themselves are tasteful and unusually large. Each room has a telephone and minibar. The fittings in the bathroom are not of a high standard. Of the 60 rooms, 15 are Water Bungalows and these are very well placed in a row parallel to the island's best reef. The south facing verandahs have steps down to the water and a short swim takes you to the reef edge.

There is some excellent diving close by, with channels both sides of the island full of the  big pelagic and caves replete with large schools of reef fish. Currents can be strong so they are not for beginners, though a number of dives inside the Atoll are suitable.

The reception, bar and restaurant buildings are tall and thatched. They are attractive looking from the outside and, in the evening under low lights, comfortable and relaxing. But the original building materials used were not of a high standard and the Italian company now running the resort is slowly replacing everything to bring the standard up.

Finally, for an Italian resort the food is just not what you would expect.

Occupancy on Moofushi is remarkably high, so many people do enjoy it here. If you don't demand a perfect beach, and you get a very good price for your holiday, we dare say you'll have a great time.
