Ranveli is unusual in several ways, in the geography of the island and the design of the buildings. What is not unusual is to find a large number of Italians having a great time. This is another 100% Fullboard, resort.

All around the sandy beach and the south side of the island, the lagoon is extensive and very shallow - good for sitting and wading around in (but no good for water sports). the lagoon on the other side is almost non-existent. The reef edge drop-off is only 10 or 15 meters from shore. This means great snorkeling is within easy reach. Though not many rooms have a good beach outside their door, it is only a few steps to the big beach or to the snorkeling.

Perhaps the nearby reef excites people, but there are probably more divers here than on any other Italian resort. Anything upto 40 guests head out twice a day, in three or four boats, to dive the excellent local sites. This south east corner has some of the best diving in the Atoll, indeed, some of the best of any of the resort Atolls.

Other day-time excursions in a full programme include sunset fishing, trawler fishing, visiting uninhabited islands and resort island hopping. Night snorkeling and snorkeling trips are also organized.

In a small cabaret theatre there are nightly amateur shows and comedy evenings. And after every meal, it seems, there are dancing sessions. These take place in the unique nineteenth century style pier that stretches out over the water. Cool and light, with open sides, it also manages to be intimate, with its many decorations of painted glass, leaded chandeliers and arched fan lights evoking a bygone time of leisure and ease. A fine place for eating and drinking.

Breakfast and lunch are buffet, dinner is set - but with a buffet vegetable and a salad selection. The food is, as always very good indeed.

Perhaps the only complaint heard here is that, for such a small island, there are too many rooms. There are 56 in all and they are in two-storey blocks of four, taking up most of the island. For many people this isn't a problem, as just about everything happens around the outside of the island and during the day many people leave on excursions. But to some people it might well be a deterrent.

The rooms themselves are a good size, pleasantly decorated and with individual balconies. The coir flooring is unique and both appropriate and attractive. The facilities are all that you would expect. There is A/C, plenty of hot & cold water, a telephone and a full minibar.
