On Veligandu you get a lot of beach for you. Not surprisingly when you discover that bank. Veligandu means "sandbank". The islands most unique feature is the long, L-shaped spit of sand that stretches out into the lagoon. A dream for serious tanners, it is permanently sunny and just a few meters from the water on either side. Veligandu has only SEA Plane transfers - and it takes 20 minutes (flying time) from A'port to Veligandu. |

As for the rest of the island the beach on the whole west side is getting bigger each year. Now it has stranded the two water bungalows on this side a good fifteen metres from the sea. Looking in the bright side, they are some of the only water bungalows in the country with their own stretch of beach! |

Being essentially a sandbank the tree growth is not full or varied. The strength of the island is its atmosphere. It is one of those resorts where you feel able to kick off your shoes and do very little in a truly calm, easy-going environment. |

There are 73 rooms (Superior Bungalow 43, DeLuxe Bungalow 08, OVER Water Villa 10, DELUXE WATER Villa 12). They are essentially the same, with a few differences in size and detail. They are nothing really special, but all are light and airy, neat and tidy. The facilities are above average, with a full minibar, a hairdryer and a telephone. Each has a "GIFFILI" concept bathroom and a large mirror. |

The reception, bar/coffee shop/dance floor/sundeck and restaurant are in one compact building decorated only in natural materials: thatch, wood, coral and a weave on a sand floor (of course). One gripe is the candy-colored painting scheme of pastel pink and blue that is used throughout the resort. Still after a few days in a resort like this almost nothing can intrude on the sense of calm and relaxation that settles on you. |

The Swiss company "Ocean Pro" runs the dive school, professionally and efficiently. There are a number of decent dive sites around Rasdhoo Atoll, but the big prize here is the nearby hammerhead shark point called Madivaru. Snorkeling on the house reef is Ok. Not the best and not the worst. A guest relation officer ensures entertainment are well organized and plentiful in the evenings. It is a resort to relax, get a tan and have some fun. Out on Rasdhoo Atoll there is a real sense of being away from it all. |
